Engenya GmbH is an engineering consultancy based in Winterthur, Switzerland, and is active internationally through a network of partners in Europe, in the USA and in Southern Africa.

Together with its network of partners, Engenya offers multidisciplinary engineering services in systems engineering, completions optimization, design and development, forensic engineering, modelling and  simulation, technical auditing and litigation support services primarily to the aerospace, oil and gas, legal, automotive, manufacturing, mining and defence industries.

Winterthur, Switzerland

Background

Engenya was founded in October 2010 in Winterthur, Switzerland to provide high value engineering services to industry. At its inception, Engenya focused almost exclusively on the development of ShockSim3D®, which its founder, Marco Serra, had already been working on as an independent consultant for about two years. Through this work, Engenya became increasingly active in the Oil & Gas industry, providing a broad range of simulation-based services aimed at design and development, failure analysis and completion design, optimization and risk management. Since then, Engenya has been extending services to the oil and gas industry to include forensic engineering, expert witness and litigation support, and has gained clients in the service as well as operator side of the business.

Engenya’s services, naturally, are applicable to any engineering driven industry, and its experience begins a long time before its founding because, being a consultancy, the experience of its people is the experience it offers. Its consultants have worked in the oil and gas, automotive, defence, petrochemical, aerospace, mining and legal industries. We have contributed to the success of our clients’ projects in numerous ways, from assisting them secure dozens of patents, to helping them resolve costly problems, to supporting their design teams to aiding them in the settlement of disputes, sometimes difficult ones.

If you work with us, you will find that Engenya is a committed partner. We have built our team from colleagues and classmates with whom we have had long-standing professional and personal relationships and whom we admire and trust. This enables Engenya to offer its services with full confidence and integrity. These values are reflected in the work we do and directly benefit our clients.

Who we are

We are located in Europe, and we partner with independent companies in North America and Southern Africa. Through this structure, we have local representation in the Zurich and Florence metro areas in Europe, in the New York and Boston metro areas in the USA and in the Pretoria-Johannesburg metro area in South Africa. We do not let geography limit us though, and are ready and able to assist you wherever you are – we have been working with remote access technologies for almost two decades.

Principal points of contact:

Marco Serra (Engenya) - Europe

Marco’s professional experience spans almost 30 years of working in North America, Europe and Southern Africa, covering diverse roles in the aerospace, automotive, defence and energy industries. He has consulted extensively on topics as diverse as providing system and component design support, conducting failure investigations, providing technical expertise in legal disputes, developing analysis methodologies for complex fluid-mechanical simulations, and working on the thermo-mechanical design of optical terminals for inter-satellite communications.

Marco holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa (1993) and a Master’s Degree in Engineering and Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA (2002).

John P. Rodgers (Starboard Innovations) - North America

John holds Master’s (1995) and PhD (1999) degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.

Roelof Minnaar (Advanced Structural Mechanics) - Southern Africa

Roelof has spent more than 20 years in engineering consulting, focusing on structural analysis and design. During this time he has provided technical solutions to challenging problems in the mining, petrochemical and transport industries. He has worked on a range of problems including large grinding mills and thickeners for minerals processing plants, pressure vessels and storage tanks, concrete roadway bridges, a block paving system for roadway construction, concrete dam walls, railway locomotives and a large telescope structure.

Roelof holds a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (1999) and a BEng(Honours) in Structural Engineering (2012), both from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is also a registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa since 2003.

Prof. Rudy du Preez, Dr.-Ing. - Specialist/Advisor

Rudy du Preez is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Over his 50-year career, Prof. du Preez has mentored numerous engineers and has been instrumental as a point of reference for the international mining, petrochemical, automotive and transport industries in helping them solve their toughest technical challenges. His authority and extensive knowledge as a subject matter expert are highly sought after in the objective resolution of legal disputes of a technical nature.

Now semi-retired, the Prof. works on projects of personal interest and remains available to Engenya and its partners as a specialist consultant and advisor.

Prof. du Preez holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, USA (1967) and a Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Stuttgart, Germany (1972).
